Chris Hanson

Chris Hanson is a highly experienced Geologist and Geotechnical Engineer. He has over 30 years geological and geotechnical experience in operations and conceptual through to feasibility studies, is an RPEQ and Chartered Professional Geotechnical Engineer, and has compiled and presented numerous geotechnical publications on mine geotechnical engineering.  Chris has conducted a number of high profile JORC Resource assessments including for the Moatize and Carmichael Coal Mine Projects.  

Chris has recently completed a Certificate in Tailings Management and now has a broad understanding of all aspects of tailings reclamation and rehabilitation management.

Core skills

• Underground and Open Cut Geotechnical Engineering: Studies from scoping to BFS and site management.

• Geological coordination at mine sites, exploration management, geological hazard assessment, coordinating geological modelling and Resource Assessments.

• Health and Safety: Hazard plans, risk assessments, training, auditing, Site Senior Executive under QLD legislation.

Example Projects

• Adani Carmichael Coal Project – responsible for all exploration, geology, geotechnical, hydrogeology and Resource Estimation for planned coal mines;

• Coordination of open cut coal Pre-Feasibility and Bankable Feasibility geotechnical assessments - Denham (Peabody), Codrilla and Willunga (Macarthur Coal);

• Coordination of geotechnical work for underground longwall projects for BMA (Broadmeadow), Eagle Downs Management (Eagle Downs), Shenhua (Taroborah).

• Managing data, modelling and JORC Resource Estimation for the Moatize Coking Coal project (Vale) - Competent Person for the JORC Resource Estimate (raw and washed coal) for this project.
